The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was signed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.

The European Climate Change Programme (ECCP)'s goal is to identify and develop all the necessary elements of an EU strategy to implement the Kyoto Protocol.

United Kingdom
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs  
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the United Kingdom Government department responsible for environmental protection, food production and standards, agriculture, fisheries and rural communities.

Environment Agency
The national Government agency responsible for a host of environmental regulations relating to water quality, flooding fisheries, waste and industrial pollution.

Hadley Centre
The Met Office Hadley Centre is the UK’s official centre for climate change research. Partly funded by Defra, it provides in-depth information to, and advises, the Government on climate change issues.

Sustainable Development Commission
The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) is the UK Government's independent watchdog on sustainable development.

The Climate Change Communication Initiative
This website is part of the Climate Change Communication Initiative, led by Defra in partnership with the Environment Agency, the Carbon Trust, the Energy Saving Trust, the UK Climate Impacts Programme and the Department for Transport.

The Nottingham Declaration on climate change
The declaration is a voluntary pledge to address the issues of climate change. It represents a high-level, broad statement of commitment that any council can make to its own community. The declaration was originally launched in October 2000 at a conference in Nottingham with 200 leaders, chief executives and senior managers of UK local government.

Stern Review Report on the Economics of Climate Change
This independent review is a 700-page report released on October 30, 2006 by economist Sir Nicholas Stern for the British government, which discusses the effect of climate change and global warming on the world economy.

Energy Saving Trust
The Energy Saving Trust (EST) is a non profit organisation that promotes energy saving, funded by Government and the private sector. It delivers practical solutions which save energy and deliver cleaner air for households, small firms and the road transport sector.
