Higher Education Institutions

Salix have been working with Universities since 2006, currently offering finance on behalf of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and previously through the joint-funded Revolving Green Fund Scheme one and four with the former Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)*. Overall, £142 million of interest-free funding has been invested in over 4,000 energy efficiency projects at 100 higher education institutions**.

Salix are keen to build long-term relationships with new and existing clients and contribute to the development and delivery of carbon management and estates masterplans. The Salix HEI Team are available for meetings, on request, and can support in discussions with senior management teams.

Over 100 energy efficiency technologies are eligible for interest-free Salix funding, including Solar PV, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), LED lighting upgrades, laboratory upgrades and measures within new-build developments. A full technology list and latest guidance can be found here.

Applications for finance are technically assessed to ensure estimated carbon and financial savings are reasonable. The loan repayment period is fixed at 5 years, while the technical payback for projects is flexible. Projects can be financed in full or partly where client contributions or other funding is available.

To tailor each application to the needs of an institution, Salix can phase funding, reserve funding a year in advance or aggregate the payback by combining projects with multiple technology types.
