Press Release: New multi-million-pound programme launched to help Scottish universities reduce their carbon footprint
The Scottish Funding Council (SFC), supported by Salix Finance, is launching a £19m programme aimed at boosting investment in energy efficiency across Scotland’s higher education institutions. The programme will provide accessible support and finance for carbon reduction throughout the sector and build capacity for funding in additional years, to benefit both students and staff.
The seminar, which will explore the policy surrounding climate change alongside practical issues that councils can look to adopt change, is taking place on 12th July 2019 at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool.

Salix is pleased to announce being awarded Highly Commended in the Company of the Year category at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2019. The awards ceremony took place this week, where over 500 executives, politicians, investors, entrepreneurs, and campaigners from across the green economy gathered in London for the ninth annual BusinessGreen Leaders Awards.
To date, Salix Finance has supported the Scottish public sector to invest over £63 million in energy efficiency projects which are forecasted to have saved the public sector more than £10 million a year. These projects are contributing towards the Scottish Governments carbon reduction targets as well as improving and modernising facilities for the public.

Carbon Trust and Salix Finance Partner to Relaunch Public Sector Network to Serve Public Bodies in Climate Conversation
The Carbon Trust and Salix Finance are working in partnership to relaunch the Public Sector Network to support information circulation and facilitate conversations around the topic of climate change action.
Oxford City Council opened their Recycling Fund in 2008. This same year the Council also began implementing its first ambitious Carbon Management Plan to tackle environmentally damaging carbon emissions across the city. The Council is now working on its third Carbon Management Plan (2017-2022) and on track to delivering a 5% per year CO2 reduction across its estate and operations through a range of carbon reduction measures.
Nottinghamshire County Council has implemented energy efficiency projects across 78 schools, which are estimated to save over £460,000 and 2,700* tonnes of CO2e per year. The schools expect to save a significant £5.9m on their energy bills over the lifetime of the technologies.
