Looking after your mental health is becoming an increasing priority in the fast-paced and stressful society we live in today. Around the world, on average, men die six years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. That is why this month Salix are supporting Movember through a focus on mental health and wellbeing, looking at how prevention, early intervention and communication can support our staff both in work and as part of their personal lives.
Eleven Scottish Universities are delivering carbon reduction projects through the Scottish Funding Council’s University Carbon Reduction Fund
The University Carbon Reduction Fund (UCRF) was launched by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) in August 2017. Managed by Salix Finance, the programme aims to boost investment in energy efficiency across Scotland’s higher education institutions in order to generate a significant reduction in carbon emissions across the sector. Salix Finance provides interest-free funding to the public sector in England, Scotland and Wales, to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills.
Salix will once again be holding Regional Meetings across England in Autumn 2019.
These annual meetings are an opportunity for current and prospective clients from Local Government organisations to network and share knowledge, expertise and experience in delivering energy efficiency projects.
Content will include discussions around emerging energy efficiency technologies, the impact of the Public Sector on mitigating climate change, as well as updates from Salix on its funding models.
Sam Boot is the ESS Energy and Carbon Manager and has been managing the Newcastle University Recycling Fund for the last year after running Salix projects for the University in a previous role. Below he tells us more about his role at the University and his work on the recycling fund, energy efficiency and carbon reduction.

The awards ceremony took place this week, where over 500 executives, politicians, investors, entrepreneurs, and campaigners from across the green economy gathered in London for the ninth annual BusinessGreen Leaders Awards.
The HFMA West Midlands conference is taking place on the 13th June 2019 at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham and will bring together over 300 delegates from across the industry to share learning with colleagues and explore a range of potential solutions for NHS organisations.
