Movember at Salix by James Garth – Building Resilience

In support of Movember 2019, Salix has planned a range of mental health workshops for staff to attend, the first of which was a company-wide session held last week as an introduction to building resilience.

Having being part of the Salix team for around two months now, I found this particularly useful as starting a new job can be fairly daunting.

I attended a further workshop titled “Building resilience” a couple of days later and found that this session complimented the introduction to resilience really well. Both sessions combined provided a useful base for me to develop an understanding of how personal values are reflected throughout my work and personal life and helped to form the foundation of my perceptions, thoughts and actions.

Moving forward, my newfound understanding of thought traps, personality traits and how to rationalise emotions will benefit me in my personal life, but also in my professional career. Becoming increasingly aware of triggers will allow me to manage challenges in my life more successfully.

Next week, our mental health workshops will continue with a session tackling self-limiting beliefs and how we can overcome these to reach our full potential.

I think the workshops are a great way of raising awareness across the whole company and help encourage staff to support the charity’s important work around mental health.

So far, the Salix Mo-bro’s team have raised over £220! If you would like to make a donation, our fundraising page can be found here.

In support of our fundraising efforts, we also have a “loose change” initiative which encourages staff to donate any spare coins they have into a Movember piggy bank. At the end of each week, our chief executive is offering to match fund any donations made, which is really appreciated by staff!
