Cutting edge solutions to climate change will be top of the agenda when key stakeholders from across Wales join Journey to a net zero Wales 2025.
The event at Venue Cymru on 11 June will provide delegates with the opportunity to engage in critical discussions on the challenges in facing a low carbon future, encouraging a day of insight, innovation, and collaboration.
Hosted by Salix, Welsh Government, and the Welsh Government Energy Service, this free event will offer a unique opportunity to learn from those at the forefront of public sector decarbonisation in Wales.
With a stunning backdrop of the sea and the sound of waves crackling against the shore, Venue Cymru is more than a location – it’s a reflection of the journey towards progress, and purpose.
In a time where the challenges of climate change can feel overwhelming, this event promises a sense of momentum, optimism, and shared commitment.
Speakers will share bold ideas, tangible successes, and lessons learned on the road to net zero.
Event speakers:
Kirsty Adamson – chair and senior programme manager, Salix
Kirsty leads Salix’s delivery of loan and grant funding for decarbonisation projects across Wales, Scotland, and England. She is passionate about empowering public sector clients to reduce carbon emissions and improve the spaces we live and work in, with a focus on sustainability, value for money, and long-term impact.
Kevin Holland – chief executive, Salix
Kevin has more than 25 years of global executive experience spanning business and government. As CEO of Salix, he leads the delivery of government funding to decarbonise our buildings. Previously, he served as CEO of Invest NI and Chief Commercial Officer at Norbrook Laboratories. Kevin also held a diplomatic post in Beijing and has worked across China, Europe, and the Middle East in sectors including healthcare, life sciences, and energy.
Kevin Hammett – business development manager, Welsh Government
Opening the event, Kevin Hammett will represent Welsh Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting decarbonisation in the public sector. His address will set the tone for a day focused on collaborative, forward-thinking solutions.
Stefan Runge – development manager at Welsh Government Energy Service
Stefan is an expert in decarbonisation, building energy efficiency and renewable energy with more than20 years of consultancy, engineering design, and practical installation experience. Within the Welsh Government Energy Service, Stefan is the development manager for several Welsh public bodies where he provides technical expertise on energy efficiency for large-scale building refurbishment projects.
David Mark Lewis – energy and commercial services manager, Gwynedd Council
With more than 30 years of experience in engineering and building efficiency, David has led Gwynedd Council to a 60% reduction in emissions from buildings, delivering £14 million in revenue savings. His leadership in fuel poverty alleviation has driven over £10 million in private sector decarbonisation measures.
Meilir Hughes – chief property and asset manager, Isle of Anglesey County Borough Council
Meilir oversees the council’s ambitious property decarbonisation programme, including extensive solar PV installations and innovative heat pump projects, such as the upcoming retrofit of the council’s main offices in Llangefni.
Alexandra Edwards – development manager, Welsh Government Energy Service
With 25 years in the electricity industry, Alex specialises in renewable energy development. Her experience spans the technical and strategic aspects of project delivery, supporting low-carbon transitions across Wales.
Philip Southern – energy surveyor, Flintshire County Council
Philip plays a key role in Flintshire’s journey to net zero, leading energy-saving initiatives and stakeholder engagement across the council’s estate. His work directly contributes to ongoing reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.
The Journey to a net zero Wales 2025 event is free to attend for public sector professionals in Wales. The event runs on 11 June from 10am-3pm. Spaces are limited and must be reserved in advance.
