This is an informal knowledge sharing event for those working in the public sector on estate decarbonisation projects in England.

The public sector has an important role to play in reaching the UK’s net zero 2050 target. Organisations across the country are paving the way towards these ambitions through capital works programmes designed to reduce the carbon emissions associated with their estate.

We are keen to share knowledge, expertise and experience and to openly discuss the challenges, opportunities, insights and successes that these projects face.

Our speakers

Gavin Hodgson, Oxford Brookes University: Gavin develops and leads on the university's zero carbon strategy and action plan. A key part of his role is to help achieve the zero carbon ambitions of the university. Gavin is a chartered energy manager and part of the environmental sustainability team at the university. Oxford Brookes University has received funding through Phases 1, Phase 3c and Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Gavin is delighted to share his wealth of knowledge driving the university’s zero carbon strategy.

John Hamilton and Paul Casey, Westminster City Council: We have two excellent speakers joining from Westminster City Council. John is head of service development at the council and Paul is sustainability and accessibility project lead. Both John and Paul are passionate about seeing the council reach its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, part of Westminster’s overall commitment to become carbon neutral by 2040. The initial phase of the council’s Carbon Management Programme has seen a reduction of almost 20%, with ongoing phases predicted to achieve an overall reduction of 30% in only five years. The council has been able to tap into the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to help it meet its ambitious targets. It is now focused on the next phase of delivery to meet its 2030 carbon neutral target.

The Decarbonisation Dialogue runs for an hour and is via Teams.

The event will provide you with an opportunity to listen, learn, contribute, question and discuss all things decarbonisation and energy efficiency with fellow public sector counterparts.  

The session is intended for public sector employees only.
