Maintained Schools and Sixth Form Colleges

The Salix Energy Efficiency Loans Scheme is now closed

In 2018, Salix and the Department for Education launched a new £25m fund for maintained schools looking to install energy efficiency measures. This fund follows a successful six-year partnership with the Department for Education.

Since the launch of the fund, £10m has been allocated to over 200* maintained schools across England.

Salix provides funding for schools to improve their energy efficiency. Through the installation of energy-efficient technologies, schools can lower energy bills and create a more comfortable learning environment.

Salix funds over 100 different technologies including LED lighting, boilers and insulation.

Interest-free funding is available throughout the year for the following types of maintained school:

  • Community
  • Voluntary Aided
  • Voluntary Controlled
  • Foundation
  • LA Nursery
  • PRU
  • Special Schools

Maintained schools can access two funding streams: the Salix Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme (SEELS); and the Switching to Low Energy (SLE) pilot.

Funding Streams for Maintained Schools

Salix Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme (SEELS)

Salix provides interest-free funding through the SEELS programme to help save money and reduce carbon emissions. Funding is for projects which are solely focused on energy efficiency upgrades - applications are open throughout the year. The interest-free loan is repaid using the predicted energy savings of the new technologies.

For more information about SEELS please click here.

Switching to Low Energy (SLE)

If you want to reduce your school’s energy-spend but are unsure which energy efficiency measures are appropriate, Salix can provide a comprehensive on-site energy survey. The survey will look at over 100 different technologies and suggest all those suitable for your school, aiming to reduce the energy-spend to the lowest possible level.

For more information about SLE please click here.

Special Schools

For more information about how Salix can work with special schools to reduce their carbon emissions and save money on their energy bills please click here.
