How verification drives confidence in climate action: experts gather in Birmingham to share success
Salix spotlights carbon-saving success stories at Verified 2025
More than 100 energy and sustainability professionals met this week to discuss the importance of evidence-backed energy and carbon savings at Verified 2025, held at the IET Birmingham.
Our Salix team joined the event which brought together leading voices from across the public and private sectors to explore how measurement, verification, and transparency are vital to achieving the UK’s net-zero goals.

Opening the event, Ian Jeffries of EEVS, organisers of Verified 2025, said:
“Verified 2025 is about celebrating organisations that are not just reducing emissions - but proving it.”
At Salix, this principle is embedded in every project. Our work emphasises that accurately measuring and verifying carbon savings is essential to ensuring that every pound invested in decarbonisation delivers genuine, lasting impact.
Our energy and carbon programme manager Christian Smaditch, said: “Verification is how we build trust, learn from the data, and drive better results for the public sector and the planet.”
He added: “We believe that robust verification not only builds confidence in reported results but also helps refine future funding and policy decisions. Without a strong evidence base, it’s impossible to know whether the technologies and interventions being funded are achieving their intended outcomes.”
On Tuesday, Christian, was joined by senior energy and carbon programme analysts Victoria Clarke and Jordan Noffke. They each took to the stage to highlight our Annual Carbon Reporting (ACR) programme.
Through the ACR, we collect and analyse data on energy consumption and carbon performance across hundreds of public sector decarbonisation projects nationwide - providing invaluable feedback to policymakers, project teams, and the wider net-zero community.

Salix has also been working closely with EEVS, organisers of Verified 2025, to support greater alignment between project reporting and industry standards for measurement and verification.
Jordan said: “By bringing together funders, data experts, and delivery teams, we can strengthen the evidence base that underpins the UK’s decarbonisation journey.”
Other speakers including Des Keighan from Swansea Bay University Health Board, Hilary Wood from EEVS, and Matt Caville from Energy Systems Catapult.
With keynote talks, expert panels, and hands-on workshops, Verified 2025 showcased lessons learned, examined best practice, and celebrated progress toward a low-carbon future.
“Events like this remind us that every verified saving counts,” Victoria added. “Together, we’re building the confidence and the evidence needed to reach net zero.”
