SHDF Hive - Reflection prompts

Capturing lessons helps improve how SHDF funding is designed and delivered, both for you and other organisations in future waves.

You don’t have to complete every prompt, but they’re here to guide your reflection and reporting.

  • Reflect on what went well and what you’d improve,
  • Make it easier to complete your Lessons Learnt Log and Report Template,
  • Help the department shape better guidance, reduce barriers, and highlight good practice for others to follow

For each lesson, consider:

  • What worked well that others could copy?
  • What challenges came up, and how did you solve them?
  • What would you do differently next time?
  • What feedback did you get (from residents, staff, or contractors)?
  • What impact did this have on how smoothly the project ran?

Project overview

Set the scene for your lessons by describing your project and the context of your reflections.

Delivery and resourcing

Reflect on how your internal planning, data, and team setup supported or challenged delivery.

Engagement and relationships

Technical delivery

Think about the “nuts and bolts” of delivering the works, from surveys to completion.

Project management and risk

Reflect on how you managed time, budgets, and unexpected issues.

Looking ahead and wider learning

Capture insights that will shape your future projects and support wider sector learning.
