"You turn on the news.  It's doom and gloom.  We have an opportunity to do something positive for Scotland,"  Cullen Warnock, chief estates officer at Abertay University told our Salix event in Edinburgh.

Around 100 delegates from across the public sector gathered for Delivering Scotland's Energy Future as we looked to discuss and answer some of the big questions around energy security, sustainability and affordability.

Sessions included presentations from grant recipients of Scottish Government funding - administered by our Salix team, as well as practical workshops and Q-and-As.

"We spoke a lot about the challenges facing the public sector and we saw real seeds of optimism and growth.  They’ve got a lot of solutions, they do a lot of great work and we really saw that come out," said Heather Jones, assistant director in the Salix public sector decarbonisation team.

What our delegates said

"My project is really the guinea pig project for Scottish Canals, so I came along today to learn from other people who’ve gone through the process, to learn what makes a good application for funding, and to feel a bit more supported."  Emma Neilson, development manager, Scottish Canals.

“I was interested to hear how others had been delivering their Salix projects.  It’s been really interesting to hear the challenges that people have faced and found it reassuring to find out that people have been having similar challenges to us.  It’s been really good to swap stories and share solutions.”  Emily Stone, net zero support officer, Heriot-Watt University.

"I found it really useful. There were some new faces that I hadn't met before, which is great.  The sessions were really informative and laid out the groundwork to how the grants are delivered and how to put in a good application."  Jonathan Coppock, lead professional for net zero, Fife Council.

"It’s been really interesting to find out more about how Salix Finance works.  What I can do, what we can do as a team and what the best way to be prepared to put in an application for funding is.  It was interesting to see what challenges other people were facing and makes you feel less alone."  Elisa Garcia, sustainability officer, University of Dundee.

Our event included presentations from Abertay University, Midlothian Council, Net Zero Scotland and BE:ST (Built Environment - Smarter Transformation)

“I really enjoyed getting to meet my clients face-to-face and hearing how we can all collaborate together.  It was also wonderful to see different public sector bodies come together to suggest solutions to some of the similar issues they were each facing," said client relationship officer, Vicky Fisher.
