Welcome to our Wales Funding Programme – Great British Energy page where you can find all the information you need about the additional £9 million funding package to support decarbonisation and the rollout of renewable energy projects.

The funding will be delivered through two schemes:

  • The existing Wales Funding Programme
  • The newly launched Ymestyn grant scheme.

Salix is administering £4 million of the funding through the existing Wales Funding Programme, supporting loan funding for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) and renewable energy projects in public buildings.

The Wales Funding Programme and Ymestyn have different purposes and eligibility criteria, and applicants may apply for either one or both of the schemes, depending on how they meet the criteria.

Contacts and applications

Projects for Ymestyn only

Please see the Ymestyn guidance to determine which funding source best suits your project.

If you have any questions about Ymestyn, or about joint applications to Ymestyn and the Wales Funding programme, please contact [email protected].

Further details on the Ymestyn grant scheme can be found on the Welsh government website. This scheme is managed by the Welsh Government Energy Service.

Projects for Wales Funding Programme only

If you have any questions about the Wales Funding Programme, please contact [email protected].

To ensure funding is allocated to viable projects that can deliver within the timescales of the scheme, we are looking for projects that can complete by 30 November 2026

If you intend to apply to the Wales Funding Programme for renewable energy projects, please be aware these projects will be allocated from the Great British Energy pot of funding.

The funding scheme criteria remains the same, except for the single additional criteria that projects must complete with spend incurred by 30 November 2026. Applications for projects completing beyond this date will still be accepted to the wider Wales Funding Programme, but will not be considered for funding through the Great British Energy funding package.

Please see guidance on the Wales Funding Programme and submit applications to [email protected]

Projects with co-funding from Ymestyn and Wales Funding Programme

For public sector organisations seeking funding from the Wales Funding Programme and Ymestyn, the loan is being delivered alongside the grant and all works related to the project must complete by 30 November 2026.

We request that applications are submitted at the same time, and by copy to each other. Please submit Wales Funding Programme applications to [email protected] and Ymestyn applications to [email protected]

We will work with the Energy Service to review the applications, streamline clarification queries and calls, assess the requested funding split, and progress funding approvals.

Any sites applied for in Ymestyn we recommend these directly correspond to a single application for Wales Funding Programme to allow for ease of assessment of the loan and grant.

For further details on Ymestyn grant please review the scheme guidance on the Welsh government website.
