Solar projects to get a boost under Scottish loan scheme

More funding available under Scottish Public Sector Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme thanks to GB Energy funding

A £2 million boost for solar power has been announced under the Scottish Public Sector Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme, giving public sector organisations across Scotland more opportunity than ever to invest in solar projects.

The additional funding, specifically earmarked for solar photovoltaic (PV), will help more organisations reduce energy costs and carbon emissions as they work towards achieving net zero targets across their estates.

Delivered by our Scotland team at Salix on behalf of the Scottish Government, the scheme offers zero-interest loans to help the public sector deliver energy efficiency improvements that deliver both financial and environmental returns.

The extra funding for solar comes from Great British Energy awarded to Scottish Government.

Applications are now open for new projects. Orders for these projects are expected to be placed by March 2026, with projects completed by September 2026.

Our Salix programme manager for Scotland Daniel Lenton: “We’re delighted to announce this funding stream specifically for solar.

“This extra investment means more public bodies can install clean, renewable energy solutions that cut costs and carbon, accelerating Scotland’s transition to net zero.”

Our Scotland team have worked closely with Scottish Government to deliver the loan funding programme and are committed to the climate action mission – creating more comfortable and clean spaces in which to live, work and enjoy.

Since 2006, Salix and the Scottish Government have worked together to invest more than £75 million in energy efficiency projects across Scotland. These have generated forecast savings of more than £202 million over their lifetime.

Under the current Scottish Public Sector Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme, project criteria allow for up to a 12-year payback period at a cost of £305 per tonne of carbon dioxide (tCO₂) over the project’s lifetime for all new loan agreements.

We’re delighted to announce this funding stream specifically for solar.

This extra investment means more public bodies can install clean, renewable energy solutions that cut costs and carbon, accelerating Scotland’s transition to net zero.
