Salix reflects on 2020
As 2020 comes to a close, Salix reflects on what has been a challenging year for many, takes a look at some of the Salix milestones and looks forward to 2021.
A start by saying thank you to our clients
This year has brought more change than many could have imagined. Covid-19 has resulted in major changes and dramatically affected the public sector, but our clients have remained supportive and proactive throughout, continuing with their decarbonisation efforts.
We are thrilled to have seen the level of energy savings projects which have been generated by our public sector client-base continues to increase and look forward to continuing this work in 2021.
A green recovery
In September 2020, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) launched the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (referred to as the Grant Scheme) which is being delivered by Salix.
The Grant Scheme offers £1bn of grant funding which aligns with BEIS’ new mission and priorities: fighting coronavirus, backing business, unleashing innovation and tackling climate change. The scheme will also encourage green investment, supporting the Government’s net-zero and clean growth goals.
Applications for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme are being accepted until the 11th January 2021. You can find out more about the scheme here.
Another funding round for SEEF and CIF
Salix, in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE), works to reduce energy usage in individual academies, sixth form colleges, free schools, and Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) across England. Through the installation of energy-efficient technologies, academies can lower energy bills and create a more comfortable learning environment.
Salix Energy Efficiency Funding (SEEF) is available for all individual academies, academy sixth forms, free schools, and those in Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) and is currently accepting applications until the 11th January 2021.
The condition improvement fund (CIF) is an annual bidding round run by the Department for Education (DfE) for eligible academies and sixth-form colleges to apply for capital funding. The priority for the fund is to address significant condition need, keeping academy and sixth-form college buildings safe and in good working order.
Applications for CIF are being accepted until the 11th January 2021 with clients being notified in Spring 2020 if successful.

For the second year running, Salix found ourselves on the Sunday Times best not-for-profit organisations to work for list, this time in second place!
Salix was recognised for the highest standard of workplace engagement and representing not-for-profit organisations that understand the importance of workplace engagement and recognise and value their people.

Looking ahead
In 2021, Salix will continue to build long-term relationships with public sector bodies to take a holistic approach to energy efficiency and provide support for their carbon management plans. The focus remains to work towards a low-carbon future and have a valuable impact on the planet.
